The island of Gotland is situated in the middle of The Baltic Sea. On the map you will find the name "Visby", which is the only city on Gotland. The island can be reached by air from Stockholm, Norrköping, Göteborg and Malmö, by boat in 3 hours from Nynäshamn (south of the capital) or from Oskarshamn. Get information via the link "Destination Gotland", a company with modern ferries.

Enjoy the time while visiting my site. I hope you will find something of interest !

The ruins of St Per and St Hans, two churches that were closely connected. The total area was 1700 m³, compared to the still excisting cathedral S:ta Maria with its 1060 m³. A lot of magnificent churches were built during the 12th and 13th centuries. Many of them are today ruins, and Visby is well-deserved called 'The city of roses and ruins'.

The button 'Map Visby' directs to sights of Visby.

Visby has influences of old German architecture from the Medieval Times. As a trading town the biggest buildings, apart from the churches, were warehouses with stepped gables. A view from the old harbour, nowadays a park called Almedalen.
In summertime Gotland is turned into a tourist island, and is often and humorously called 'Limestone Hawaii'. Sorry, but there are no photos from the sandy beaches on this site....
